What B2762-87 means

Longer cabs put a second side impact sensor back at the C-pillar because the rear seating area needs its own crash input. That sensor reports to the ORC on a set schedule. When the controller waits for the message and nothing arrives, it records B2762-87 and stops relying on the rear left zone for deployment decisions.

A missing message usually means the path was broken rather than the sensor going bad. Power, ground, the data line, and the connector all have to be intact for the controller to hear anything. The rear of a cab sees seat removals, subwoofer installs, and water coming in around rear glass, and every one of those can interrupt the report.

Common causes

• A sensor connector disturbed or left unplugged after rear seat, trim, or stereo work
• An open in the supply, ground, or signal wire running back to the C-pillar
• Water entry around the rear cab glass reaching the sensor connector
• Corroded terminals in the connector from long term moisture in the pillar
• A sensor that has failed outright and no longer powers up to report

Crash data or hardware fault?

Read this as a live circuit and communication fault instead of crash history. The ORC repeats the check every key cycle, so the code resolves by itself once the sensor reports in again. Crash data is what stays behind after a deployment, sits locked in the module, and requires a reset rather than a code clear.

Clearing the module will not restore a report that is not arriving. The controller looks again immediately at the next key on and rewrites the code. Fix the wire, the connector, or the sensor, then confirm the message is present.
