What B2209 means

The occupant restraint controller runs a series of checks on its own circuitry every time the vehicle powers up. Memory, processors, firing drivers, and power supplies all get verified before the system arms. When one of those checks fails, the controller stores an internal fault code and refuses to arm the system, because it cannot guarantee it would fire correctly in a crash.

The number on the end of the description points at which internal test failed, though Jeep does not publish what each one covers in customer facing documentation. What the code does tell you clearly is that the fault is inside the box. External wiring, airbags, and sensors are not what set it, which changes the direction of the whole diagnosis.

• A failed internal component in the occupant restraint controller
