What B1C4D means

The buckle tensioner's firing loop has to sit within a narrow resistance band for the controller to consider it ready. B1C4D means the measured value has climbed past the top of that band. The device may still be present and the wiring may still be continuous, but something in the path is adding resistance that was not there originally.

Connections are the usual culprit on a circuit that lives under a seat. Spilled drinks, road salt tracked in on shoes, and years of seat travel all work against the terminals, and a connection that looks fine can still read high once it is measured.

Common causes

• Corrosion on the buckle tensioner connector terminals under the seat
• A terminal partly backed out of the connector body
• A poor repair splice in the seat harness adding resistance
• The tensioner itself reading above its normal value as it ages
• Oxidation at an inline connector between the seat and the controller

Crash data or hardware fault?

B1C4D is a live circuit reading rather than stored history. Fix the connection and the measurement comes back in range on the next test. Crash data does not behave that way. It is written permanently when a deployment occurs, and clearing codes at the vehicle leaves the record in place.

Does our reset clear it?

Our reset service will not bring a high reading back down. The controller checks this loop constantly and records B1C4D again as soon as it sees the same resistance. Clean or replace the connection, or replace the buckle tensioner, then clear codes at the vehicle. The mail-in reset applies to modules holding deployment data or a stored internal fault.

What to do next

Disconnect the buckle tensioner and inspect both halves of the connector under good light, because corrosion is the leading cause and it is easy to see once the connector is apart. Measure resistance across the tensioner alone, then across the harness, to place the extra resistance.
