The airbag module has decided the left hand door mounted side airbag sensor is faulty and stored B1695. That sensor is one of the inputs the module uses to decide whether a side impact is real, so the system shuts down while the code is present.
Toyota and Lexus mount a small satellite sensor inside the left front door or on the door pillar structure. It watches for the pressure change and the acceleration that come with a side impact, and it reports back to the center airbag sensor assembly. B1695 means the module asked that sensor for a status and got an answer it will not accept, or got nothing at all.
The fault can live in the sensor or in the path to it. Door mounted sensors sit in a part of the car that moves thousands of times, gets wet, and takes abuse from window regulators and speaker work. A wire that has been flexed through the door boot until a strand broke produces the same code as a sensor that failed on its own.
Hardware is where this code sits, since the module is naming a component rather than a resistance out on a wire. It is live in the sense that the module rechecks the sensor every time the system runs its self test, and it differs from crash data, which is a permanent record of a deployment that no scan tool can erase and that only a module reset removes.
Clearing B1695 through a reset makes sense only after the sensor and its wiring check out, and even then the code will reappear on the next self test if the fault is still live. Both Lexus and Toyota carry B1695 with the same definition, since they share the restraint architecture that puts a dedicated sensor in the door. The exact location of the sensor varies by model, so check the service information for where the left door sensor lives on that particular chassis.
Open the left front door and pull back the rubber boot at the hinge pillar, because a broken conductor in that flex loop is the cheapest thing to find and the most common cause. Inspect the sensor connector for green corrosion and for a latch that never clicked. Wiggle test the harness with the code monitor running.
