B1647: Left Satellite Sensor Bus Lost

What B1647 means

Satellite sensors along the driver side report to the central module over a shared communication line. The module expects steady traffic on that line whenever the system is powered. Silence on the left hand bus sets B1647, and because the fault is at the bus level it can mean the wiring, the feed, or one sensor that has taken the line down with it.

Driver side trim comes off more often than passenger side trim over a vehicle's life. Door panels, sill plates, and pillar covers all get removed for window regulators, speakers, seat belts, and interior repairs. Any of those jobs puts hands on a satellite sensor connector, and a plug pushed back without latching is enough to silence the bus.

• A left side sensor connector not fully latched after door or trim work
• An open or shorted conductor in the left side bus wiring
• A failed sensor pulling the shared line down
• Water at the left sill or jamb connector causing corrosion
• Harness damage from a prior driver side repair

Crash data or hardware fault?

B1647 is live communication data, which makes it a circuit family fault that clears once the bus recovers. Stored crash data is the permanent side of module memory, written at deployment and untouchable with a scan tool, and the two often show up in the same vehicle after a collision.

Does our reset clear it?

Resetting the assembly does not restore a bus. The assembly checks the left side line again after it powers up and sets B1647 if nothing is answering. Get the wiring and sensors right first. Lexus carries B1647 for the left side satellite sensor bus. Its right side counterpart uses a different number, so the code already tells you which side of the car to work.

What to do next

Go through the left side sensor connectors in order, door first, then pillar, checking each latch and looking for corrosion. Unplug sensors one at a time to see whether the bus comes back, which finds a unit that is shorting the line.
