What B1511 means

The buckle switch is a contact inside the driver's belt receptacle, wired down the stalk and under the seat to the module. Hyundai groups two failure modes into this one code: a circuit with no continuity at all, and a circuit sitting at battery voltage when it should not be. Either condition leaves the module without a trustworthy answer about the belt.

Those two modes come from different damage. An open usually means a broken conductor or a disconnected plug, while a short to power means bare wire touching a supply circuit somewhere in the same loom. Knowing that both are covered here keeps you from assuming the circuit is simply unplugged.

Common causes

• A conductor broken inside the buckle stalk pigtail where it flexes
• The under-seat connector unplugged or partly latched after seat or carpet work
• Chafed insulation letting the switch wire touch a powered circuit in the same bundle
• Corroded terminals in the under-seat connector from spills or floor moisture
• A failed switch contact inside the driver buckle assembly

Crash data or hardware fault?

B1511 reflects live conditions on the circuit, updated every time the module checks. That makes it very different from crash data, which is recorded once during a deployment and locked in memory where a scan tool cannot erase it. Repair the wiring or the switch and B1511 stops returning.

Does our reset clear it?

A reset does not repair a buckle circuit, and the code will set again at the next self test if the fault is still there. Fix the stalk wiring, the connector, or the buckle first.
