B1415: Passenger Side Sensor Wrong ID

What B1415 means

Side impact sensors carry an identity the SRSCM verifies at every startup. That check exists so a module calibrated for one sensor type cannot end up interpreting data from another. When the ID coming back is not the one the module expects, it refuses the sensor's input outright and stores the code instead.

Nothing about this points at a broken part. The sensor is powered and communicating well enough to report an ID. What it says is that the part and the module do not belong together, which is almost always the result of a replacement sensor, a swapped module, or two sensors installed on the wrong sides.

Common causes

• A replacement side impact sensor from a different Kia model or body style
• Left and right side sensors installed on opposite sides
• An SRSCM from another vehicle expecting a different sensor set
• A salvage sensor with an ID the module is not calibrated for
• A poor connector contact corrupting the ID message at startup

Crash data or hardware fault?

This sits in the hardware family because the module is rejecting a part rather than measuring a circuit. It is not crash data. Crash data is a permanent deployment record, and a vehicle can easily have one of each, with only the crash data requiring a reset.

Does our reset clear it?

Resetting the module does not make it accept a sensor it was never calibrated for. The ID check runs again on the next startup with the same result. Get the correct part on the vehicle. If the module is also locked with crash data, that is where our mail-in reset service comes in.

Which makes throw it

Kia uses B1415 for the passenger front side impact sensor ID. The front impact sensor has its own wrong ID code in a different range, so read the number carefully before you start pulling sensors.

What to do next

Verify the part number on the installed sensor against what the vehicle originally carried, and confirm it is mounted on the correct side. Those two checks solve most of these.
