B1409 covers a communication error between the driver front side impact sensor and the SRSCM. The sensor is meant to report continuously, and the module is not getting messages it can use.
Side impact sensors mount in the door, the B pillar, or the sill on the driver's side, close enough to a side impact to detect it immediately. They talk to the SRSCM over a dedicated circuit, sending data the module reads on a schedule. B1409 means that exchange has broken down, whether the messages are missing entirely or arriving corrupted.
The location puts this circuit in the path of everyday wear. Door harnesses flex every time the door opens, and the rubber boot between the body and the door is where wires break. Water running down inside a door or wicking into a sill connector does the rest of the damage.
B1409 tracks a live link between two parts, so it exists only while the communication is broken. Stored crash data is the other kind of entry in the same module: recorded after a deployment, locked in place, and impossible to clear with a scan tool. Restoring clean messages clears B1409 on the next check.
No reset repairs a broken sensor link. Our mail-in service is for modules holding crash data after a deployment, and it returns them to their original factory state. B1409 is a wiring and sensor job on the car. If the vehicle deployed in a side impact, expect to handle both: fix the circuit, then reset the module.
Hyundai uses B1409 for the driver front side impact sensor communication fault. Reading it next to Hyundai's separate sensor failure and circuit codes tells you the module still sees the sensor and cannot understand it.
Open the door jamb boot and flex the harness by hand while watching for the code to react, since broken conductors inside that boot are the classic cause and they read fine at rest. Check the sensor connector for water and corrosion next. If the wiring proves sound, replace the side impact sensor with a genuine OEM part, which we stock for Hyundai.
