What B1378 means

This airbag is built into the outboard bolster of the driver's seat, and its firing loop leaves the SRSCM, crosses the floor, and enters the seat frame through a connector underneath. The module holds that loop to a narrow resistance range. Anything above the ceiling becomes B1378 and the side airbag goes offline.

The seat is the reason this circuit drifts. Every adjustment drags the harness, every detail job soaks the carpet, and every seat removal disturbs the connector. Resistance climbs slowly as corrosion builds on the pins, which is why these codes often appear intermittently for months before they stick.

Common causes

• Corroded terminals in the SRS connector under the driver's seat
• A connector that was reattached but never fully latched after seat work
• Harness conductors damaged by the seat track over years of adjustment
• Moisture in the driver floor carpet reaching the connector
• A side airbag inflator whose resistance has drifted above specification

Crash data or hardware fault?

B1378 is a live circuit measurement and nothing more, which means it reflects the seat wiring as it stands today. The other thing a module can hold is crash data, written permanently when a deployment happens and not removable with any scan tool. Bring this loop back into range and the code stops setting.

Does our reset clear it?

High resistance does not come down because a module was cleared. The mail-in service clears locked crash data and returns the module ready to install after a deployment, and it leaves a corroded seat connector exactly as it was. Repair the connection or the airbag first, then reset the module only if it is carrying deployment data as well.

What to do next

Get under the driver's seat and take the SRS connector apart, because corroded or partly seated terminals cause the large majority of these readings and the fix can be as simple as cleaning and reseating. Measure the loop from the connector toward the seat to decide whether the airbag or the harness is high.
