What B1334 means

Newer front impact sensors send more than a raw voltage. They talk to the restraint control module over a dedicated line, carrying status messages the module expects at regular intervals. B1334 sets when those messages stop arriving or arrive corrupted, so the SRSCM is left without a reliable front sensor input on the passenger side.

A communication failure can be a wiring problem, a power problem, or a sensor problem, and the module cannot separate them for you. What it rules out is a simple resistance complaint. The sensor either is not talking or is talking in a way the module rejects, which makes connector condition and the supply side worth checking before the sensor gets replaced.

Common causes

• A damaged or corroded connector at the passenger front impact sensor
• An open or shorted wire in the sensor communication line after front end repair
• Loss of power or ground to the sensor
• A failed sensor that powers up but no longer communicates
• Water intrusion at the front harness connectors from road spray

Crash data or hardware fault?

The module is judging live traffic on a line, so B1334 belongs with circuit faults even though the symptom is communication rather than resistance. It clears once the sensor is talking again. Crash data does not clear at all without a reset, because it is written permanently the moment a deployment happens.

Does our reset clear it?

Resetting the SRSCM will not restore communication with a sensor that is not answering. The module checks for those messages every time it powers up and will set B1334 again. Sort out the wiring, the power feed, or the sensor first. We reset Kia modules that are locked after a crash, which is a different repair than this one.

What to do next

Check the sensor connector for corrosion and a solid lock before anything else, because a marginal terminal will drop messages without showing an obvious open. Verify power and ground at the sensor.
