B0099-96 is the rollover sensor reporting an internal component failure to the Occupant Restraint Controller. Rollover sensing is what fires curtains and pretensioners when a truck goes over, so the module disables the system until that sensor is trustworthy again.
The rollover sensor measures roll rate and lateral movement and feeds that to the ORC, which decides whether the vehicle is tipping far enough to deploy. Like the impact sensors, it checks its own circuitry regularly. A -96 result means the sensor found a fault inside itself, not in the wiring leading to it.
Where that sensor physically lives decides the size of the repair. On some restraint systems it is a separate part with its own connector, and on others the sensing element is built into the controller. Find out which one your truck has before ordering anything, because one answer is a sensor and the other is a control module.
B0099-96 is a hardware complaint from a live component, not a deployment record. The ORC reports it fresh on every key cycle and will keep reporting it after any code clear. Deployment records behave in the opposite way. They are written once during a crash, they stay in the module permanently, and clearing them takes a module reset rather than a scan tool.
A mail-in reset clears stored crash data. It does not repair a sensor that says its own electronics are bad. If the truck rolled and the ORC is holding both a deployment record and this fault, do the mechanical and electrical repairs, replace the failed sensing hardware, then send the module to us so the crash record comes out.
