What 46-2X means

Every impact sensor in the system tests itself and passes the result to the control module. When the second right side sensor reports that its internals have failed, Acura stores 46-2X and disables deployment on the strength of that report alone. No wiring test is going to clear this one, because the wiring is what carried the bad news in.

Sensors in this position live in the lower body on the passenger side, which is a harsh place to spend fifteen or twenty years. Heat, vibration, road salt, and moisture from seals and drains all work on the housing. When the seal finally lets go or the electronics fatigue, the sensor starts failing its own test.

• Water intrusion past the housing seal reaching the internal circuit board
• Electronics fatigue after years of vibration and temperature cycling
• A sensor left in place through a prior collision repair instead of replaced
• Impact or prying force applied to the sensor during trim or body work

What 46-2X reports is the sensor's live condition, not a stored deployment record. Put a good sensor in and the report changes with it. Crash data sits in a different category entirely, written into the control module when the system fires and held there permanently until the module is reset on the bench.
