What 22-9X means

Isolation from the body is the whole point of a firing loop, and the SRS unit checks both legs of the passenger tensioner pair against ground constantly. A grounded leg means there is a path that could carry current outside the module's control, and that is enough for Acura to store 22-9X, shut down deployment, and hold the warning light on.

Look for the fault in the floor and pillar, since that is where this circuit lives. The harness crosses the sill, runs under carpet padding, and climbs the B-pillar to the retractor. Every one of those sections sits close to bare metal, and anything that opens the insulation, from a trim clip to a seat bolt, puts the wire straight to ground.

Common causes

• A conductor rubbed bare where the floor harness crosses a body seam or seat bracket
• A trim fastener or sill plate screw driven into the loom during reassembly
• Standing water under the passenger carpet corroding the pillar connector to ground
• The retractor connector pinched between the trim panel and the pillar sheet metal
• Insulation damage inside the retractor assembly grounding the igniter loop

Crash data or hardware fault?

22-9X is a live circuit reading, which means it reflects the state of the wiring right now rather than something the module recorded in the past. Clear the ground path and the reading normalizes. Stored crash data is permanent by design, written at the moment of deployment so the module cannot be reused without a proper reset.

Does our reset clear it?

Sending the module out will not lift the wire off ground, so it is the wrong first move here. The SRS unit finds the same condition at the next key-on and 22-9X returns. Handle the wiring repair, then clear. Our mail-in reset is for modules holding deployment data, and we run it after the physical repairs are complete so the car does not come back with the light on.

What to do next

Lift the passenger sill plate and peel back the carpet edge, looking for water staining and rub marks along the loom. With the tensioner unplugged, measure each leg of the pair to chassis ground.
