01025 is a circuit code for the airbag warning lamp itself on Audi and Volkswagen. The restraint module drives that lamp in the instrument cluster and reports a fault when the circuit does not respond the way it should.
Every restraint system is required to be able to warn the driver, so the module treats the warning lamp as a monitored part of the system. It commands the bulb on at key up, watches the circuit while the lamp burns, then commands it off. If the module cannot verify that the lamp lit, or it sees the circuit open or shorted, it stores 01025 and treats the system as unable to warn.
Depending on the vehicle, the lamp is driven directly from a module output or requested over the vehicle bus and lit by the cluster. That difference matters when you go looking for the fault. A directly driven lamp gives you a wire to test between the module and the cluster, while a bus-driven lamp points you at the cluster, the module, or the messages passing between them.
01025 is a live fault. The module tests the lamp circuit each time the key comes on and reports what it finds at that moment, so the entry follows the wiring rather than any past event. Crash data sits in a different part of memory. It is created when airbags deploy, it records that event, and it stays there until the module is reset or replaced.
Understand what you are asking a reset to do. It erases stored contents, and on a live lamp circuit fault the module immediately rebuilds the same entry at the next self test. Repair the bulb, the wire, or the connection first.
