What 00532 means

The airbag controller needs a steady supply to fire pyrotechnic devices on demand and to test its circuits between key cycles. It watches its own B+ feed and stores 00532 when that feed leaves the acceptable band. Low voltage during cranking, a sagging battery, or a poor ground can all push the reading out of range and trip the code.

What makes this one worth taking seriously is how it cascades. A module running on marginal voltage can throw additional circuit codes that have nothing wrong with them, because resistance measurements taken on an unstable supply come back wrong. Sorting out the supply first often clears a list of codes that looked like separate problems.

Common causes

• A battery that is weak, old, or holding a surface charge that collapses under load
• A corroded or loose ground strap between the body, engine, and battery
• Poor connection at the controller ground point, often under the center console or carpet
• Charging system output that is low or unstable under load
• Corroded battery terminals or a loose positive clamp

Crash data or hardware fault?

00532 is a live supply condition, not stored crash data. The controller checks its voltage continuously, so the code stops being current once the supply is stable. Crash data works on a different rule entirely, written into memory at the moment of deployment and held there permanently until the module is reset off the car.

Does our reset clear it?

Resetting the module will not improve the voltage reaching it, and 00532 returns on the next key cycle if the supply is still out of range. Load test the battery, clean the grounds, and confirm charging output first. Which makes throw it

This code reads the same on Audi and on Volkswagen, since both use the same controller numbering. The code appears the same way whether the scan tool is reading an Audi or a VW.

What to do next

Load test the battery before touching anything else, because a battery that reads 12.4 volts at rest and collapses under load causes this code and a handful of others with it. Clean and retorque the battery terminals and the main ground straps next. Then measure voltage at the controller connector with the engine running and during cranking, since a drop that only appears under load points at a ground or a connection rather than the module.
