00592: Passenger Buckle Switch E25

What 00592 means

E25 reports whether the front passenger belt is latched. The controller uses that alongside occupant information to manage the passenger side of the system, so a bad reading is not something it ignores. An open, short, or implausible signal on the E25 circuit stores 00592.

As with the driver side, the wiring lives under the seat. The passenger seat gets a different kind of abuse than the driver seat, including cargo, child seats, and feet from the back row, and passengers tend to move the seat through its full travel more often. The connectors underneath collect the same corrosion the driver side does.

Common causes

• A corroded connector under the passenger seat, a frequent problem on these models
• A conductor broken in the buckle stalk wire from seat travel or cargo pressure
• Coins, crumbs, or dried liquid inside the buckle blocking the switch
• Connector damage from a child seat base or luggage pressed against the seat
• An internally failed buckle switch assembly

Crash data or hardware fault?

The controller reads this switch in real time, so 00592 is a live fault and not a deployment record. Repair the circuit and the code stops being current. A crash entry is written the instant the system fires and remains in the controller permanently, which is why it takes a bench reset rather than a repair.

Does our reset clear it?

What to do next
